HAROLD KRAUS

Harold Kraus was born in the United States in the mid-1940s to German parents. His father, an artist, introduced him to painting at a young age, fostering a lifelong fascination with color and light. Now based in Tennessee, Kraus has built an impressive career with numerous solo exhibitions and growing international recognition.

Describing himself as a “colorist,” Kraus explores the emotional and transformative power of color. He believes many people lead “color-starved” lives, relying too heavily on muted tones like gray and beige. His vibrant, joy-filled paintings serve as an antidote, immersing viewers in rich, luminous hues that stir nostalgia and happiness. Often drawing inspiration from sunlit beaches, lively circuses, and festive holiday scenes, his impressionistic works, infused with expressive energy, elicit enthusiastic responses like, “I love his colors!” For Kraus, color is more than an aesthetic choice—it’s a source of light and optimism. “In a world often filled with sadness,” he reflects, “I find joy in sunlight. It makes the colors sing!”
